Consultancy — Auckland, New Zealand

Considered work at the join between software, intelligence and story.

Hawkins Consulting Services advises teams building software, applying AI to real operational problems, and producing work for film and television. Small engagements, senior attention, no layers in between.

  • Software development
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Film & television

Practice

Three disciplines, one team

01

Software development

Architecture, delivery and technical review for products that have to keep running after launch. We are as comfortable writing the code as auditing someone else's.

  • Product and platform architecture
  • Technical due diligence
  • Fractional engineering leadership
02

Artificial intelligence

Where a model genuinely helps, and where it does not. We scope, prototype and put AI features into production with evaluation and cost attached from the start.

  • Opportunity assessment
  • Prototype to production
  • Evaluation and guardrails
03

Film & television

Production consulting for screen work, and the technology that surrounds it — scheduling, post pipelines, delivery specifications and the tooling productions quietly depend on.

  • Production and post workflow
  • Delivery and technical specification
  • Tooling for production teams

Approach

Most of the value in a consulting engagement is decided before any work starts. We spend that time carefully.

Scope
A fixed question, a fixed window, and a written answer at the end of it. Open-ended retainers are the exception, not the default.
Evidence
Recommendations come with the reasoning and the numbers behind them, including the parts that argue against us.
Handover
Your team owns the result. Documentation, code and decisions are written to be picked up by someone who was not in the room.
Operating
We build and run our own products, which means we live with the same decisions we recommend to clients.
